Then Simeon blessed them, and he said to Mary, the baby’s mother, “This child is destined to cause many in Israel to fall, and many others to rise. He has been sent as a sign from God, but many will oppose him. As a result, the deepest thoughts of many hearts will be revealed. And a sword will pierce your very soul.” — Luke 2:34-35 NLT
Simeon’s prophecy in Luke 2: 34 & 35 came alive and jumped out at me because it foretold a part-culmination of what Jesus came do — reveal the truth, shake up the world and turn it upside down. I say part, because the truth unravelling and shake up was what will eventually lead to His rejection — by those with stony hearts, who the enemy had used to keep his lies alive — and death; thus allowing Him fulfill His primary assignment of defeating the enemy, taking back the keys to the Kingdom and rising up from the dead. Proving Him Lord and Savior. The entire culmination was a sacrifice that then, now and forever will afford the salvation of formerly bound souls who no longer believe in the prior lies circulated by the enemy; and who now believe in Him.
The Holy Spirit also reveals how Simeon’s prophecy in essence, mirrors Rev 19:10b: “The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”
I mean, he literally prophesied about Jesus and it became a testimony. Or he testified about Jesus which proved the earlier prophesies… 🤯🤯🤯. Whichever way, the Holy Spirit was certainly upon him bro!
Questions: As believers therefore in Jesus Christ who are constantly being mind renewed, transformed and who have God’s Spirit poured out on us; are we (by His Spirit):
• Truth unravelling, shaking up enemy strongholds and turning upside down the areas we’ve been called to for the salvation of souls bound?
• Imparting and causing many to fall and many others to rise even in the midst of soul-piercing opposition.
• Unveiling heart postures?
Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, “Listen carefully: this Child is appointed and destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and for a sign that is to be opposed— and a sword [of deep sorrow] will pierce through your own soul—so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.” — Luke 2:34-35 AMP
Simeon went on to bless them, and said to Mary his mother, “This child marks both the failure and the recovery of many in Israel, A figure misunderstood and contradicted— the pain of a sword-thrust through you— But the rejection will force honesty, as God reveals who they really are.” — Luke 2:33-35 MSG
Prayer: May the Spirit of prophesy become manifest in you and I, causing us to speak up for those who are downcast or bound in order to lift them up; and unveil the heart postures of those who’ve kept others bound so that the enemy’s lies are replaced with His truth! In Jesus’ name, amen.
