I stopped wondering why the scribes and pharisees, who had knowledge of the law, were the same ones who tried to challenge Jesus every step of the way because I know that God made it so. God allowed for them to act based on their presumed knowledge and “wisdom” because He had a plan. We know He blinded them just so His plan for our salvation won’t be thwarted by the enemy.
Now, we’re living in times when God wants everyone to know His plan. He wants to let us in on the mysteries He’s kept from the world for so long. He is restoring hope in us and His glory to us for His glory.
“There is a divine mystery—a secret surprise that has been concealed from the world for generations, but now it’s being revealed, unfolded and manifested for every holy believer to experience. Living within you is the Christ who floods you with the expectation of glory! This mystery of Christ, embedded within us, becomes a heavenly treasure chest of hope filled with the riches of glory for his people, and God wants everyone to know it!”
Colossians 1:26-27 TPT
He has this plan He is revealing and unfortunately, some of us are still caught up in the law, caught up in the knowledge we think we have of His ways. Blinded by our presumed “wisdom”. Some of us are modern day scribes and pharisees.
I thought I knew what I signed up for all the times I asked God to use me, send me, reveal His plan and the mysteries of His Word to me, give me a new wineskin, pour His New Wine into this new wineskin, make me His vessel and servant, humble me… I honestly thought I did. And now that He is doing all the above and more, I’m just so gobsmacked. Thankful, humbled and utterly gobsmacked that He’d consider me worthy of this task in spite of me. Now I’m learning to no longer ask who I am and why He’d entrust me because I know who I am in Him. I know I’m His Daughter and I know He is pleased with me.
Unchangeable Changer is so apt right now in describing our Maker and sharing what He is revealing about His plans. He is unchanging, yet He changes the order of things, He changes procedures and templates for His glory because He is Lord above change which is constant. God is constant over consistency, over inconsistency.
When we aren’t sensitive to God’s plan, when we stay stagnant, bound by man made constructs, when we don’t have a personal relationship with Him and revelation of who He is to us and who we are in Him for our personal selves — and as a result can’t hear Him —; we become subject to the law and what the law does is it reveals sin. It sets us up to sin.
For the sake of understanding what the law is, let’s go beyond the commandments to all man made constructs, standards, definitions, requirements etc.
“In fact, it was the law that showed me my sin. I would never have known that coveting is wrong if the law had not said, “You must not covet.” But sin used this command to arouse all kinds of covetous desires within me! If there were no law, sin would not have that power. At one time I lived without understanding the law. But when I learned the command not to covet, for instance, the power of sin came to life, and I died. So I discovered that the law’s commands, which were supposed to bring life, brought spiritual death instead.”
Romans 7:7b-10 NLT
The scribes and pharisees were bent on proving they knew and obeyed the law by only focusing on the parts of fulfilling it that could be seen on the outside by others, so they could be praised and perceived as holy; they were so deep in their deceit and self justification that they missed out on God’s plan.
Can I just add that when there are discrepancies between who we say we are, who others perceive us to be and who God has called us to be, then it means someone’s lying and it sure ain’t God.
“What sorrow awaits you teachers of religious law and you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are so careful to clean the outside of the cup and the dish, but inside you are filthy—full of greed and self-indulgence!”
Matthew 23:25 NLT
Unfortunately this same attitude is playing out on different scales even when God’s plan is glaring. Even when He is pouring out His Spirit on all flesh. This attitude is playing out because some of us still think we don’t have direct access to God’s presence through Jesus Christ. Some of us think we need a Pope, Bishop, Pastor or spiritual leader to tell us what God is saying or planning when He is actually speaking to all of us. Some of us are still looking at occurring events with veiled faces and scaled eyes, looking forward to the end of this season, thinking things can go back to normal. Thinking of earthly riches, how we can gain and exploit, lusting over worldly pleasures and standards, basically carrying on doing the same things that have brought us to where we’re at. Some of us — especially the church — are carried away by hierarchies and the steps we thought we had to go through to gain access to His presence; carried away by religious antics, not being accepting of the truth that people who we consider “worldly” are hearing from God and are part of His plan to bring glory to His name — because we think the steps we went through to get to where are at should apply to all. It’s like it’s the Jews vs Gentiles all over again:
“He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners. It contained all kinds of four-footed animals, as well as reptiles and birds. Then a voice told him, “Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.” “Surely not, Lord!” Peter replied. “I have never eaten anything impure or unclean.” The voice spoke to him a second time, “Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.” This happened three times, and immediately the sheet was taken back to heaven.”
“He said to them: “You are well aware that it is against our law for a Jew to associate with or visit a Gentile. But God has shown me that I should not call anyone impure or unclean.
Then Peter began to speak: “I now realise how true it is that God does not show favouritism but accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.”
Acts 10:11-16, 10:28, 34-35 NIV
I was one of such people but I thank God that He’s opened my eyes to understand His mercy and loving kindness towards everyone of us who have sinned and fallen short of His glory; I’m thankful to know without a doubt that He has washed me clean of all my sins so nothing can separate me from His love; I’m thankful to understand that this washing applies to us all;
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:38-39 NIV
He’s always been speaking to me, I just wasn’t tuned into His frequency because I was distracted. I’m thankful that I can finally hear Him speaking to me. I’m thankful He is speaking to us all and using us as vessels for His glory. After all,
“The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;”
Psalms 24:1 NIV
I rest assured knowing God is merciful. Knowing He loves us. Knowing He has brought us into right standing with Him through Jesus Christ, not because of what we did, are doing or will do, but because of His Son. We just need to believe.
“we know full well that we don’t receive God’s perfect righteousness as a reward for keeping the law, but by the faith of Jesus, the Messiah! His faithfulness, not ours, has saved us, and we have received God’s perfect righteousness.
Now we know that God accepts no one by the keeping of religious laws!”
Galatians 2:16 TPT
GOD ACCEPTS NO ONE BY THE KEEPING OF RELIGIOUS LAWS. GOD ACCEPTS US ALL BECAUSE OF THE FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST.
I reiterated for you to let that sink in, for you to believe on and in it, because it’s the point of this epistle and the truth of God’s plan.
I pray He brings us to the understanding of His perfect love and plan for us. I pray He helps us believe.
