There’s a cover up that’s existed for time. It’s being revealed through the recent disbursal of stimulus checks, free money, food, services, amenities, healthcare etc giveaways… which are essentially offerings. Not that there haven’t be variations of these giveaways in the past. It’s just not been done on such a massive scale worldwide. And at the same time. At least not in my lifetime.
These offerings are revealing every moment that we really ought to be of service each other. They are revealing that we have the capacity to be kind. Not just in times like these but “Always”.
I’ll try to enabledly explain.
Since we’ve — beyond hypothetically speaking — had to practically come into the understanding that our bodies are God’s spiritual temple and the church is not just a physical building but also in our hearts; the kindness the world is experiencing now is revealing a lot about offerings and the concept of giving and receiving.
The Holy Spirit put this in my heart about a month and some change ago as I was having a conversation with my sister about how the church was in scripture, about the true essence of offerings — building and repairing the temple:
“At one point Joash decided to repair and restore the Temple of the Lord. He summoned the priests and Levites and gave them these instructions: “Go to all the towns of Judah and collect the required annual offerings, so that we can repair the Temple of your God. Do not delay!”
2 Chronicles 24:4-5a NLT
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.” Malachi 3:10a NIV. Let’s call food provisions in general.
She mentioned Communal Living as we both talked about a possible world where everything was free. A world where everyone did what they were skilled at without needing to earn wages. A world where showing up to do your job was the only criteria you needed to live life comfortably. A world where because everyone did something, everyone benefitted. A world leveled by equality, one not classed by haves and have nots. A world where everyone has, without a select few solely benefiting on the struggle of others. A world not classed by borders, nations, race, colour…
Our conversation has been marinating in my heart since then and with each passing day, I knew I had to share. I just wasn’t sure when or how to.
Then I happened on these verses last week.
“Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have. Of course, I don’t mean your giving should make life easy for others and hard for yourselves. I only mean that there should be some equality. Right now you have plenty and can help those who are in need. Later, they will have plenty and can share with you when you need it. In this way, things will be equal. As the Scriptures say, “Those who gathered a lot had nothing left over, and those who gathered only a little had enough.” 2 Corinthians 8:12-15 NLT
And these today.
“The whole congregation of believers was united as one—one heart, one mind! They didn’t even claim ownership of their own possessions. No one said, “That’s mine; you can’t have it.” They shared everything. The apostles gave powerful witness to the resurrection of the Master Jesus, and grace was on all of them. And so it turned out that not a person among them was needy. Those who owned fields or houses sold them and brought the price of the sale to the apostles and made an offering of it. The apostles then distributed it according to each person’s need.” Acts 4:32-35 MSG
Incredible! The truth in these verses are just incredible.
You might say it’s somewhat similar to Trade by Barter but it’s not quite the same thing.
A present day illustration for communal living will be:
A is skilled in providing gas/fuel
B is skilled in clothes making
C is skilled in laundering
D is skilled in produce/groceries
E is skilled in security
F is skilled in entertainment
G is skilled in building
H is skilled in carpentry
I is skilled in transportation/travel (insert A world not classed by borders, nations, race, colour…let this sink in)
J through Z though dependent, perhaps unskilled or unable to don’t have to worry because there is consideration, and importantly, because there’d be surplus.
So basically, people in this world will render their services without expecting a medium of exchange because they receive other services they’re unskilled at for free. All they need do is show up to do their work. Diligently. Till/unless they’re unable to (as a result of being dependent, aged or limited). Such that there is no lack because they all live symbiotically and everyone benefits.
I’m still trying to comprehend how incredible this revelation is that we can co exist in a world where Acts of Kindness, Service and Skills are the exchange rate and Love is the currency…
Paul was spot on in making this statement:
“And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:19 NLT
God makes available His glorious riches given to us in Christ Jesus by enabling us to give and receive.
For the longest time, the enemy has tried to taint the true essence of giving and receiving. Maybe we’ve never known. Maybe we knew at some point but have forgotten. Maybe we’ve been too busy with distractions, man made concepts and structures…
All I hear and see, factually evident or not, is that everything is crumbling and only what’s true will stand unshaken.
May God in His infinite mercy bring us into remembrance.
